Higher National Diploma in Applied Biology

The HND Applied Biology provides student with a good conceptual understanding of the applied aspects of biology which are designed to prepare students for a career in applied biology fields. This course has been introduced at North East College to provide a progression route to study medicine in New Castle university or BSc in Biomedical Science. However the qualification is broadly recognised and the fundamental nature of the modules studied mean that this qualification could also be used to enter science-based posts within the health sector.

HND in Applied Biology is especially designed for anybody interested in science and its practical application, particularly in health care or related research. If you want to open up a the pathway leading to Doctor of Medicine (MD) from recognised universities around the globe , a degree in Biomedical Sciences comes to the picture.

Entry Requirements

    To be eligible to apply for a place on this programme, applicants must:

      1. Hold a Level 5 or a FETAC award at NFQ Level 6 or equivalent
      2. Leaving Certificate Award-5 Passes
      3. Completion of a recognised Access Programme (or equivalent).
      4. For those EU students who have not completed their education through the medium of English, IELTS of 5.5 score band or TOEFL equivalency, or Pearson Test of English General (PTE General)
      5. Mature students, those at the age of 23 or higher on January 1st of the year of the course of entry
      6. Managers with considerable experience but no formal qualifications may be considered, subject to interview and being able to demonstrate their ability to cope with the demands of the programme.
